Sondheim's Passion is Reborn in Washington

Stephen Sondheim and James Lapine's Tony-winning musical, Passion, is reborn as the first production of the Signature Theater's 2018/2019 season. Based on the film, Passione d'Amore by Ettore Scola (which in turn is adapted by the book Fosca by Iginio Ugo Tarchetti), Passion is an exhilarating tale of love, desire and obsession.

Broadway star Natascia Diaz, who previously starred in the Signature Theater production of West Side Story, will star as Fosca in this dazzling re-staging by the Signature Theater's Artistic Director Matthew Gardiner.

What is Passion about?

On his transfer to a remote military outpost a handsome army captain captures the eye of Fosca. Although she is the cousin of his superior, Fosca will stop at nothing to call the captain her own. As her longing draws him ever closer the captain must try hard to resist Fosca's advances or threaten to lose his glittering career.
