A New Frankenstein

The UK's National Theatre Resident Director Emily Burns unveils her brand new interpretation of Mary Shelley's genre-defining horror hit, Frankenstein, following on from spearheading successful STC adaptations of Much Ado About Nothing and Macbethin Washington. The production turns the eye inwards on Elizabeth and Victor Frankenstein, exploring their interior worlds and casting Mary Shelley's legendary tale in a whole new light.

What is the story of Frankenstein?

Published by Shelley in 1818, the novel follows Doctor Frankenstein, who after the loss of his mother is determined to make death a thing of the past by creating an immortal, 'perfect being'. Once the creation is brought to life, however, Doctor Frankenstein realizes too late the terrible mistake he's made, as the monster escapes and plots revenge on the one who brought him into this world.
