Why See National Symphony Orchestra - West Side Story?
NSO Pops Presents Sondheim
Leonard Bernstein and Stephen Sondheim's ground-breaking West Side Story is a glorious high point for the Broadway musical. This show relocates Shakespeare's Romeo and Juliet to the streets of 1950's New York, replacing the Montagues and the Capulets with the warring street gangs the Sharks and the Jets. The score, which incredibly was Sondheim's Broadway debut as a lyricist, includes numerous classics, including 'America', 'Maria', 'I Feel Pretty' and 'Somewhere'.
This event sees the National Symphony Orchestra play the musical live in concert, with a number of guest soloists joining them. Steven Reineke directs.
