Despite its less-than-auspicious beginnings, Stravinsky's The Rite of Spring has become a seasonal staple in concert halls across the world and the National Symphony Orchestra steps up to the challenge admirably with this program led by dynamo conductor Krzysztof Urbanski. Christopher Eschenbach conjures up the pastoral serenity of Brahms' bucolic Symphony No. 2 as he joins the NSO once more. One of the most revered and celebrated composers of the classical period Johannes Brahms was a master of the symphonic and sonata forms in the latter half of the 19th century. His Symphony No. 2 is often held up as one of his best works, with lush melodies and tranquil movements leading to a cheery and grand finale.
