The Washington Ballet: Carmina Burana & Theme and Variations

A welcome return!
Why see The Washington Ballet: Carmina Burana & Theme and Variations?
poetry in motion
The Washington Ballet present the return of audience favorite Carmina Burana this after a decade away. Choreographed by Septime Webre and set to a live chorale, Carmina Burana was originally a set of satirical writings by a group of medieval priests and has been adapted into tongue-in-cheek, sinuous, sensual dance spectacular.
The story follows the passions and adventures of three seminary students who abandon their revision after a chance encounter with the Goddess Fortuna, who encourages them to seek a more pleasurable existence. Soon the three men are lost to alcohol, lust and ecstasy. This grandly theatrical piece is an elegant and exuberant celebration, with vibrant cohesion, sets, costumes, scenery, and choreography!
Also presented is George Balanchine's iconic and expressive Themes and Variations, set to the music of Tchaikovsky and featuring a spectale of 26 dancers.
