Fresh from touring the world's finest opera houses, American opera director Francesca Zambello's critically acclaimed adaptation of George Gershwin's folk opera masterpiece Porgy and Bess returns to the Washington National Opera in 2024. Marrying music with action, energy and passion, Zambello has been universally praised for breathing new life into one of the greatest American musicals of the 20th century.
Washington National Opera presents their rendition of Ludwig van Beethoven's only opera which was first performed in 1805. This compelling opera full of adventure and suspense was last showcased by Welsh National Opera over 30 years ago. This upcoming 2024 production signifies the inaugural partnership between Artistic Director Francesca Zambello and Music Director Designate Robert Spano, a distinguished conductor who has been honoured with four Grammy Awards.
