Why see The Widow Lincoln?
The Widow Lincoln makes its World Premiere
Commissioned by Ford's Theatre as part of a series of events that commemorate the 150th anniversary of the death of Abraham Lincoln, The Widow Lincoln explores the tumultuous period after the assassination of one of America's most recognisable and celebrated presidents as experienced by his loving wife, the polarising and magnetic Mary Todd Lincoln.
It has long been a mystery as to why Mary disappeared for the 40 days following her husband's death; different accounts place her in the White House where she locked herself away to grieve. With a colourful cast of historical characters that include Queen Victoria and spiritualist Nettie Colburn, award-winning playwright James Still reimagines what could have conspired behind those white walls in this brand new and thought-provoking play.
