Wilderness Generation

Wilderness Generation at Victor Shargai Theatre

Why see Wilderness Generation?

New From James Ijames

Pulitzer Prize-winning writer James Ijames (Good Bones; Fat Ham) returns with his brand new play Wilderness Generation. A comedic exploration of modern family dynamics, the play examines how the choices made by a generation will linger for the next, with legacy a central idea. Presented at the Victor Shargai Theatre and directed by Taibi Magar, don't miss this excellent new work from the decorated playwright.

What Is The Story?

Wilderness Generation centers around four cousins who are back at the family home in Tidewater, Virginia, to clear out their Grandma's house. As they spend the weekend sifting through generations of stored memories, catching up, playing games and making each-other laugh, they share secrets and come to terms with some harsh realities they have to face about how their lives have been shaped by their parents' choices. Balancing poignancy and laugh-out-loud comedy, the play is a moving musing on whether honoring one's roots means clinging onto the past or looking ahead to the future.
