Mr. Ratmansky's is poetic and human-scaled, focusing more on the young lovers' attraction than on the oppressive circumstances of 14th-century Verona.

In the hands of the Bolshoi Ballet, the Bard's timeless tale of star crossed love turns into kinetic poetry. Returning to Washington for the first time in six years, the world class company presents their former artistic director Alexei Ratmansky's visionary Romeo and Juliet, a production beloved for its emotional depth and nuanced sense of humour.
Set to Prokofiev's richly orchestrated, cinematic score, Ratmansky's signature quick steps and vigorous lifts punctuate the tale of Romeo Montague and Juliet Capulet. The son and daughter of opposing noble houses in fair Verona, they meet at a party and fall in love at first sight. Sadly, their new found joy is not supported by their feuding families so the young lovers take matters into their own hands with tragic consequences.
