National Symphony Orchestra - Also Sprach Zarathustra

Why see National Symphony Orchestra - Also Sprach Zarathustra?

Stratospheric Music

Simone Young conducts the National Symphony Orchestra in this performance of Richard Strauss' incredible 1896 tone poem. With its unforgettable opening fanfare and heart-stopping movements, it has since become synonymous with space exploration and the cosmos after Stanley Kubrick chose it as the theme for his seminal 1968 film, 2001: A Space Odyssey.

The program also features Kaija Saariaho's Orion, as well as a further earthly musical treat in the form of Mozart's exquisite Piano Concerto No. 9, Jeunehomme, with pianist Lisa De La Salle masterfully taking the lead. A joyful offering from the National Symphony!
