Visceral gut-punch of a production. Ralph Fiennes is pure poetry...(he) supplies physical restraint and deliberative, cerebral energy.

A Fienne new staging

The Scottish play comes to cast its spell over Washington DC as this brand new bare bones production continues its world tour. Starring Ralph Fiennes as the titular Lord and Indira Varma as his ambitious wife, expect a searing journey into a world where greed, vengeance, and dark magic intertwine as the ambitious couple stops at nothing to gain the crown.

Directed by Simon Godwin, this all-new production has set and costume design by Frankie Bradshaw and is adapted from William Shakespeare's original Emily Burns. Already seen in both Liverpool and London, don't miss this engrossing new staging as it comes to D.C from April 17.

What is the story?

Thought to have first been performed in 1606, Macbeth is the story of a Scottish general who receives a prophecy from three witches that one day he will rule all of Scotland. Consumed by the idea, Macbeth and his wife Lady Macbeth do whatever it takes to make the prophecy come true, even if that means blood on their hands. But of course, their actions have consequences and both Macbeth and Lady Macbeth are driven into a state of madness before an explosive finale.
