Why See Dave?

Starring Drew Gehling

A brand new world premiere musical is coming to the Arena Stage this summer. Inspired by the Oscar-nominated 1993 film, Dave tells the story of Dave Kovic, a run of the mill high-school teacher who is thrust into the most coveted role in the world, the President of the United States!

Composed by two time Tony winner and Pulitzer Prize winner Tom Kitt (Next to Normal), with a book written by three time Tony winner Thomas Meehan (Annie, The Producers, Hairspray), directed by Tina Landau and with star of Broadway's Waitress, Drew Gehling leading the cast as Dave, its safe to say that this musical adaptation is in safe hands!

What is Dave about?

Dave Kovic is a high-school teacher but he also looks like the most famous man in the world, the President of the United States. When the President falls ill, under some unscrupulous circumstances, the secret service employs Dave to take on the role of Commander In Chief in order to divert a world-wide scandal. As Dave is thrust into the Oval office, he must win the hearts and trust of the nation, as well as the First Lady...
