All Aboard The SS American!
Helmed by artistic director and influential theater-maker Molly Smith, the prestigious Arena Stage company presents a groundbreaking mix of diverse voices and award-winning playwrights as part of their 69th season. Smith herself steps back into the role of director during the hotly anticipated new program, transporting audiences back to the golden age of American song with a nostalgic production of Anything Goes, the 1934 Broadway spectacular penned by Tin Pan Alley icon Cole Porter.
Set sail for a rollicking romp you won't soon forget - Anything Goes has it all, a love triangle, mistaken identity and enough razzle-dazzle song and dance numbers to keep even musical-theater-naysayers entertained. A madcap caper on the high seas ensues when lovelorn stowaway Billy Crocker, a wall street broker, falls in love at first sight with a beautiful broad he shared a taxi with. It turns out the object of his affection is American debutante Hope Harcourt, who's setting sail on the SS American with her betrothed. With the help of the ship's showgirls and sailors, Billy pulls out all the stops to win her over, leaving chaos and mischief in his wake.
