Why See National Symphony Orchestra - Andrew Bird?

Andrew Bird's 2018 Orchestral Tour

In an age of auto-tune and trend chasing, few artists break defy convention and march to the beat of their own drum (quite literally). Andrew Bird is a rare ornithological specimen in that case, having shifted from jazz and swing in the mid-2000s to later explorations of looping and indie pop in his professional career. The virtuosic violin player, singer songwriter, film score composer and top class whistler continues to bend genres and break boundaries during his latest orchestral tour of North America, performing with fellow musical polymath Gabriel Kahane.

A master of layering melodies, poetic lyrics and imaginative arrangements, Bird has often been likened to a one-man orchestra, whirling with a creative energy that spills out from his records and onto the stage, wether playing intimate gigs or grander venues like the Sydney Opera House. New material collides with old classics in a kaleidoscopic performance style that often utilises a menagerie of different instruments whilst Bird regales the crowd with stories in between. Backed by the National Symphony Orchestra for this special one-night-only tour stop off, one could only imagine the heights his musical genius is sure to climb!
