Not to be confused with the ex-Real Madrid soccer player, Roberto Carlos is a veritable institution of Latin pop music. He spearheaded the Brazilian rock 'n' roll movement of the 1960s, modelling himself after his idol Elvis Presley. Later, he hosted the tv show Jovem Gaurda which is credited with playing a major part in the same shifting of societal mores and cultures in Brazil as shows like The Ed Sullivan show did in America.
Over the course of his 50 plus years in the business, Carlos has won a Grammy and sold over 70 million records worldwide. In his later years, he has moved away from the rock 'n' roll of his youth to focus more on balladry.
