EXCELLENT PERFORMANCE!

I loved everything about the performance- the cast, the music, the set! Wonderful, wonderful! I read the book and Esther really stood out as being perfectly cast. But really everyone did a fantastic job!

EXCELLENT ADAPTATION

This play indeed promised more than it delivered, as noted, but it fell short only by a bit. The acting by the woman who played the Snow Child (Faina) was excellent. Her portrayal of a semi-feral young woman was evocative and convincing. The portrayals of the lead characters, Mabel and Jack, was not nearly as bad as one reviewer has indicated. Mabel in particular captured the early sense of wonder. Jack's part had a bit less depth. As noted, these drawbacks were not the fault of the actors but of the writing. The supporting characters of George and Esther were played well. Special mention should be given to the puppeteers. The snow fox and the horse proved remarkable convincing, despite the relative simplicity of their apparatus. The swan was not quite as convincing, but still good. The musicians, too, were excellent. The staging was excellent, as was the seating in the Kreeger Theater.

DON'T WASTE YOUR TIME OR MONEY

The story was potentially intriguing but the play did not meet its promise. Despite a tragedy in the main characters' past, the characters came across as flat and not fleshed out. This was not the fault of the actors (who were actually quite good) but of the writing. My husband wanted to leave at intermission. I was hoping it would get better but it didn't.
