A history defining work
Why see National Symphony Orchestra - Stravinskys Petrushka?
Noseda Conducts Seminal Stravinsky
Following the breakthrough success of his Firebird Suite, Russian classical icon Igor Stravinsky capitalised on his success as one of early 1900s Paris' most revered musical forces and produced Petruska in 1911. The rousing, virtuosic work would become one of his most famous, propelling him into the stratosphere as one of the world's most important and influential composers.
Petrushka is a ballet burlesque based on the popular puppet/jester character of Russian folklore, full of vivid theatricality and earthy vitality. Gianandrea Noseda leads the National Symphony through this seminal piece, as well as Shostakovich's Violin Concerto No. 2 featuring soloist Leonidas Kavakos, bringing his rare quality and superb musicianship to the Kennedy Center.
