Swapping glass slippers for a silver bracelet and a fairy godmother for a philosophy tutor, director Joan Font's Cinderella, (his take on Rossini's La Cenerentola,) has been steadily delighting audiences the world over since 2007. Zany and bright, it sparkles with wit and cleverness, creating an exciting and family friendly take on the beloved fairytale with the Barcelona's hilarious performing troupe, the Comediants providing fun and frippery for this warm hearted fable.
First performed by the Houston Grand Opera, Washington National Theatre now take on the romantic comedy, in what is sure to be the gem of the spring season!
In a kingdom far, far away
Cinderella, (known as Angelique in this version) spends her life working as a put-upon maid for tyrannical stepfather Don Magnifco and his social climbing stepdaughters. When an old beggar knocks at the door, their lives are changed forever, for despite appearances, he's looking for a bride for Prince Ramiro and Cinderella catches his eye...
