a rich russian classic
The esteemed Mariinsky Ballet returns with Petipa's mesmerizing Raymonda, the last of the Grand 19th Century Russian Ballets. One of the most influential companies in classical dance for the past 200 years, The Mariinsky continues to set the standard in stage production. After struggling for survival under the Soviet regime, the unrivalled company has firmly established its place on the world stage and gone on to display its unmistakable style in appearances around the globe.
Raymonda
The story of a young and beautiful countess, we meet the titular Raymonda during the celebration of her birthday, on the eve of her wedding to the brave Knight Jean de Brienne who will arrive at her home, castle Doris on his way home from battle the next day. But as Raymonda dances with her friends an unwanted visitor appears at the door, Abderakhman, a warrior Saracen. Upon entering with his entourage, Abderakhman falls for Raymonda, and sets out to seduce her, much against her wishes. But Castle Doris has a mysterious guardian, the ghostly White Lady, and she is not having any funny business on her patch. Will she be able to stop the Saracen's advances and see our heroine safely married to her beloved?
Lavish and glorious, Raymonda displays the myriad talents and virtuosity of this incredible company, from the famous dream sequence featuring celestial imps, elves and more, to the third acts' Pas de dix. A must see for all fans of ballet!
