Why See Bright Star?

Musicals

pre-broadway engagemnt

Springing from a Grammy Award winning collaboration on the record 'Love Has Come For You', Bright Star is a new American musical, exploring the turmoil of families, their secrets and love, against the background of the South in renaissance, as the landscape and deeply held beliefs began to change. With 25 new songs, it's a moving and wide reaching story, set to a bluegrass and folk infused score.

Well known to audiences as a mad-cap comedian, Steve Martin has always returned to his first love, the banjo. Along with chart topper Edie Bricknell, they were inspired to create Bright Star, after being inspired by the chemistry they found whilst working on their last album. Bright Star premiered at the Old Globe Theatre in San Diego and now heads to the Kennedy Center for a limited run ahead of its upcoming Broadway debut.

THE LIGHT OF FORGIVENESS SHINES FROM THE BRIGHTEST STAR: THE STORY OF BRIGHT STAR

Set in the Blue Ridge mountains of North Carolina, the musical skips between 1923 and 1945, as young, aspiring writer Billy returns home from the war. Once settled, he meets the brilliant and melancholy Alice Murphy, editor of The Southern Literary Journal. Together, in this sweeping tale of enduring love, they discover a long-hidden secret, that is sure to change their lives forever.
